Wavering Wannabes

Do you ever get stuck trying to figure out what to do? Where to make your next move? Does fear of making a mistake, choosing the wrong path, doing the wrong thing immobilize you? Well, join the club of Wavering Wannabes. We wannabe in God’s will. We wannbe sure we’re hearing God’s voice. We wannbe confident we are doing the right thing. So we pray, seek, listen and sit waiting for some grand sign or a definite word. Sometimes it comes but most often we must step out not knowing if we are truly doing the right thing.

God has given us directions and promises in his Word that he will guide us. The first that comes to mind is James 1: 5-6. “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.” Of course, asking God what to do is always our first step. But we must ask with faith that he will give us wisdom. Wisdom is spiritual insight into any situation from God’s perspective. He promises that he will give us that. Trust that he will.

The second scripture that comes to mind is from 1 John 5::14-15 “This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.” If we ask to be led by God, we can be confident that it IS his will to lead us. Unbelief that he is able to so this is sin. I am sure that most of us would say, it’s not God but me who might fail. Yes, perhaps, but if we believe that we placed our decision and our next steps in his hand, we must trust that he will do as he promised.

And third, that the Lord’s leading and direction is most often never as we imagined it would be. We may be taken down a path which is so different that what we hoped for or wanted. Trust him, that he is leading exactly where he wants to take you. So many times in my life I’ve followed the Lord and then become filled with doubt because my picture of his will was not actually what he fulfilled.

Don’t doubt in the night
What was true in the light
Walk by faith and not by sight!
